How to Fix Very Low FPS After the RIFTSTORM Tutorial
Use the developer's current Simulation Thread Count workaround for the RIFTSTORM Demo's post-tutorial low-FPS issue, with clear failure limits.
Apply the current workaround
- Return to the main menu if possible.
- Open Settings.
- Find Simulation Thread Count.
- Set the value to 2.
- Close and fully restart the game.
- Load the mission that previously dropped to very low FPS and compare the result.
The official notice describes the symptom as a severe drop—sometimes around 5–9 FPS—after the tutorial when entering a mission on some higher-core-count CPUs.
If setting it to 2 does not help
The community thread contains both successful and unsuccessful reports. Do not keep lowering unrelated settings or assume a crash has the same cause.
- Confirm that the game was fully restarted after the change.
- Record whether the problem is low FPS, a freeze, or a crash; these are different failure modes.
- Check the official notice and discussion for a newer developer update.
- If the Early Access client is now live, verify that the notice still applies to that build before using this Demo-era workaround.
What this page deliberately does not prescribe
There is no source-backed basis here for registry edits, launch arguments, driver downgrades, deleting saves, or third-party optimization tools. The developer was still investigating a permanent fix when these sources were reviewed.

The setting, restart requirement, affected scenario, and investigation status were matched between the official notice and developer replies to affected players.
The post-tutorial low-FPS workaround is covered for the Demo-era issue. General crashes, every performance problem, and the Early Access build are not represented as fixed.
